It is only natural that a garage door needs repair due to its constant use. The most common garage door problems include:

Noises

When your garage door makes noises, then it could be a sign that something is wrong. Different noises indicate different problems. A squeaking sound is an indicator of dry rollers, grinding noises mean the track has a dirt buildup, popping noises indicate that rollers are worn out, and scrapping sounds indicate that the cable may be loose. If you cannot identify the sound with certainty, it is important to consult a professional who can assess the door and repair the existing problem.

Garage door opener or wall switch do not work

If the garage door will not open when pressing the opener or the wall switch, it is a sign that electrical current has been disrupted. This problem could be mean that the motor unit is disconnected, and you can check it to ensure the connection is complete. It could also mean that the motor is broken, requiring replacement by a professional.  If your garage door still will not budge, then the circuit breaker or fuse has tripped. To know for sure, test the lights and other electrical circuits in the garage to see whether they work. If the circuit breaker trips frequently, it could be an indication of a bigger problem.

Faulty tracks

If a garage door is sliding off its tracks, it could pose a safety hazard. Warning signs of this include misaligned tracks, loose brackets, or loose bolts. When you notice these signs, you should have your garage door repaired by a professional rather than doing it yourself. This is because you may injure yourself. A garage door could come off its tracks due to broken rollers. This problem could also occur by accidentally hitting the garage door with your car damaging the lower section or the whole door causing it to hang.

Loud thud

A garage door spring eases the ability of the garage door to open mechanically or easy enough to lift it yourself. A loud thud while your garage door is in operation is an indication of a faulty spring system, which if overloaded, can cause an accident. A loud thud is also an indication of a broken cable. The thud is an indication of a crashing sound made by the door. Repairing springs yourself is a dangerous process, as they can break, crushing you with the force of the door.
